Getting their first win in a European Championship would be rather timely for Poland, assuring them of a place in the quarterfinals for the first time.

The Czech Republic also need a victory to reach the knockout stage, but may be without captain Tomas Rosicky.

Poland will try to overcome several of their own injuries while capitalizing on one to Rosicky as they face the Czechs on the final match day for Group A on Saturday.

Poland rallied to draw 1-1 with Russia Tuesday after squandering a lead to settle for a draw by the same score against Greece to open Euro 2012 on June 8.

Those results have put the co-hosts third in Group A, needing a victory over the Czech Republic to reach the quarterfinals. That's a stage the Polish have never reached, crashing out of Euro 2008 with a 0-1-2 record.

Surprisingly, that's the only other European Championship that Poland have ever qualified for.

The Czechs, runner-up in Euro 96 and semifinalists in 2004, are also looking to advance out of the group stage after reviving their chances following Tuesday's impressive 2-1 victory over Greece, getting both goals in the opening six minutes. That was a dramatic improvement after losing 4-1 to Russia on June 8.

While both the Czech Republic and Poland are looking for a win, a draw could only give the Czechs a chance at advancing via tiebreakers against the Russians and Greeks.

The Czechs may have to overcome Rosicky's absence after he suffered an injury against Greece and was subbed off at halftime.

"I have a problem with my Achilles' tendon and have no idea what to expect next, I'm afraid," Rosicky said. "From about the 20th minute on, I could barely walk."

If Rosicky can't play, that may only increase the pressure on Vaclav Pilar, known as the "Czech Messi." The midfielder has a goal in each of the last two games.

"I'm happy to score two goals," the 23-year-old Pilar said. "Now, we have a chance to advance."

Improved play in goal may be key to advancing for the Czech Republic. Legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech had a cross slip through his fingers and fall to Theofanis Gekas, who shot it into the open net, giving Greece a sign of life in the second half Tuesday.

That goal could help determine which teams reach the quarterfinals if tiebreakers are needed.

"It was my mistake. Who else is there to blame?" Cech said. "I'd been playing well till then, and I was determined I wouldn't let any in."

Poland are also dealing with injuries, as defender Damien Perquis (shin) and midfielders Dariusz Dudka (abdomen) and Eugen Polanski (knee) picked up minor injuries against Russia. It's unclear if they'll be available Saturday.

Still, the Polish will likely rely heavily on their trio of stars who are teammates at Germany's Borussia Dortmund - Robert Lewandowski, Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lukasz Piszczek.

Lewandowski scored against Greece, while Blaszczykowski's strike Tuesday earned praise as the best goal of the tournament so far.

"They play for a big club that won titles this past year, which is a testament to their skills," midfielder Ludovic Obraniak said. "Kuba is our captain, Lewy our top scorer and Lukasz is our solid right back and has been for a long time. The team turns principally around them."

While another strong performance and possibly a goal or more from Lewandowski would see Poland into the next round, that could also increase his value on the transfer market. It's been widely reported that Manchester United and other big clubs around Europe are showing an interest in the 23-year-old rising star.

"He's made an amazing amount of progress. I hope he continues to develop. He's a young man with big career ahead of him and some of the biggest clubs in Europe are interested in him," said Poland Football Federation president Grzegorz Lato, himself a star striker for Poland and the top scorer at the 1974 World Cup.

At the same time the Poles and Czechs faceoff in Wroclaw, group-leaders Russia faces Greece in Warsaw.

The Euro 2012 future of both teams will be at stake Saturday when Greece meet Russia in Warsaw in the final round of games in Group A.

The two countries have met four times previously at the Euros - including in the group stage of the last two tournaments - with Russia winning all four matches. However, 2004 champions Greece know a victory over the group leaders would see them through into the knockout stages.

With just one point from two matches, a win in Warsaw would see Fernando Santos' side draw level with the Russians and go through at the expense of either Saturday's opponents or the Czechs - depending on the other result.

"It's a final for both of us," said Santos. "We are going after one result; our rivals can go through with a draw.

"My faith in my team is total. It's the same faith I had back in the autumn after our draw in Latvia. Back then it was tense and we needed a victory against Croatia to have any chance of qualifying. I believed in that team, I said so, and afterwards I was vindicated. I am saying the same now. We must take all our passion onto the pitch and I am sure we will make the Greek fans happy."

One way to make their fan base happy would be to play with a lead, something they've yet to do. Greece have started on the back foot in both matches and trailed the Czechs 2-0 just six minutes into Tuesday's match, but Panis Gekas pulled one back in the 53rd minute.

Santos has hammered home the need for a strong start with so much at stake.

"Our preparation has been spot on and the players are motivated. However, we have ended up chasing games. We managed to equalise in our first match, but could not do the same against the Czech Republic.

"The only thing I can do is point out the mistakes to the players, but they are perfectly aware. I am sure that they will show more intensity in the next match and everything will go fine.

"I am considering some changes to the line-up as I am looking for quick thinking when in possession and pressure when we're not. We will evaluate our players and their form, as some have played 180 minutes so far and we'll decide from there."

Greece are without Kostas Chalkias (hamstring) and Avraam Papadopoulos (knee), but Giorgos Fotakis should be fit after a thigh problem. Centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos returns from his one-game ban after being sent off in the opening game of the tournament.

Russia may still go through with a defeat, but a draw would guarantee their progress to the latter stages. However, after manager Dick Advocaat stated that Russia have played the best football at the tournament so far, the Group A leaders failed to confirm their place in the round of eight after being held to a 1-1 draw with co-hosts Poland on Tuesday.

"I think judging by how the game developed, we dropped two points," admitted Russia goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev. "We couldn't hold the advantage, as Poland pushed for a goal right after we'd scored, with their home advantage.

"I don't think they had an impressive game and we could have gone on and won the match. I think it's always difficult to play in such an atmosphere. They counterattacked well, while on many occasions we weren't as quick as we'd like. We played better and faster against the Czechs."

Alan Dzagoev netted his third goal, tying him with Germany's Mario Gomez and Croatia's Mario Mandzukic for the tournament lead, and Andrey Arshavin leads all players with three assists.

Russia will hold a late fitness test for goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, who has yet to play due to a knee injury, and defender Yuri Zhirkov is trying to shake off a knee injury suffered in Tuesday's draw.

The other two teams in Group A are the Czech Republic and Poland, who meet in Wroclaw at the same time Saturday night.

All four teams can still advance, although the permutations are complicated. A win by either Poland or the Czechs would see either into the quarters with Russia or Greece, depending on the result in Warsaw. A draw in Wroclaw would see the Czechs through if Russia win or draw, but Poland would advance with a victory by Greece.

(AP) -- LONDON (SE) - Kiev plays host to the pivotal game in Group D when Sweden play England at the Olympic Stadium.

Both teams are in need of a win to keep their Euro 2012 future in their own hands, with Sweden losing 2-1 to Ukraine and England drawing 1-1 with France in their respective opening games. Facing the prospect of a tournament exit with a defeat to England, Sweden talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic admitted to being disappointed to have lost to the tournament co-hosts.

"We shouldn't have lost," said the AC Milan forward. "We had good chances to score goals. We were winning 1-0, then they scored to make it 1-1 and another to make it 2-1 from a corner and that just can't happen. But we have two games left to do better.

"I felt a bit nervous in the first half, but we started the second half better, we played better and held the ball and were a bit more daring. But that sums up football; things start to go well and you concede a goal and then a second goal after that.

"We just have to focus. Two great matches lie ahead of us against two great teams and we will do much better. We will just prepare for them and do even better. We can learn not to throw away a lead in the manner we did and to be a bit more daring. It isn't just about one game."

England have never beaten Sweden in a competitive match - a run that includes three European Championship meetings - but impressed defensively in their opening match with France. However, the players visibly tired in the high temperatures in Donetsk, and manager Roy Hodgson admits there may be fitness concerns for Friday's game.

"I will have to assess the freshness of my team and see whether they are able to do that again," said Hodgson. "Scott Parker and Steven Gerrard are both over 30 and had to work really hard. I'm not the only coach wondering 'can they do it every four days?'

"My gut feeling, after a good recovery day on Tuesday, a sensible training day on Wednesday and sensible recovery day on Thursday, is that it will be very hard for me to leave people out. If we said 'we're going to give you a rest because it's too much to play two games in four days,' some of them would have us up against the wall.

"But what we've got to make certain of, is that if they can't, or start to show signs of fatigue, that others are ready to go in and do exactly the same job. The mood in the dressing room is exceptionally good because we have shown we can handle difficult conditions, against a France team of that quality, and come away with a good result."

The other two teams in Group D are co-hosts Ukraine and group favourites France who meet earlier on Friday in Donetsk, with Ukraine looking to seal a quarter-final spot with a win.

France-Ukraine Preview

LONDON (SE) - Co-hosts Ukraine partied well into the Kiev night after a resounding opening performance by Andriy Shevchenko put them on top of Group D.

They will travel east to the mining town of Donetsk with an eye on reaching the knockout phases of the European Championships as they face Laurent Blanc's France on Friday night.

Making their tournament debut, Ukraine fell behind by a goal in the second half Monday against Sweden before Shevchenko's brace gave the home side a 2-1 victory and three crucial points.

The 35-year-old Shevchenko is playing his last tournament for Ukraine after there were questions whether he would even be included in Oleg Blokhin's line-up. In addition, he was bothered by numerous injuries but put all of that to rest on a frenzied night in the nation's capital.

"I feel that I am 10 years younger," Shevchenko said. "I really couldn't imagine I could play in the European Championship. I had a lot of problems with my knee and my back."

The player affectionately known as 'Sheva' to his adoring fans has made the home nation begin to dream.

"There were a lot of critics who asked why he was on the team," Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov said. "Now he has shut them up."

Shevchenko said before the tournament that he wasn't sure if he could play all three group matches so it's not even clear how much action the striker will see Friday.

Blanc, meanwhile, knows all about the momentum of playing a major tournament at home as a World Cup winner with Les Bleus in 1998.

"(Shevchenko) gave hope to a whole population," Blanc said. "I'm pleased for him, because he's someone I like a lot."

Ukraine will advance to the quarter-finals with a victory, and will win the group with three points Friday if England do not defeat Sweden. France and England are tied for second with one point after they drew 1-1 Monday in Donetsk.

Samir Nasri equalised for France in the first half after they went a goal down, but Blanc's side never found a winner despite dominating the English after the break. Nasri created a stir when he ran away in celebration after his goal and shouted "Shut your mouth."

"These are individual and personal reactions. They are always something we don't always expect," Blanc said. "He was happy to have scored a good goal."

Blanc inserted midfielders Hatem Ben Arfa and Marvin Martin in the second half against England, and the coach has hinted he may make changes.

"We will make changes if we think there are some players who can bring something more to a game like this," he said.

The French were a bit frustrated since Real Madrid star Karim Benzema was forced to drop deep numerous times with the English defending in huge numbers. France finished with a 15-1 edge in shots on goal.

Blokhin, meanwhile, was critical for what he felt was a poor finish for his side in the Sweden match. Such criticism made veteran striker Andriy Voronin smile.

"Blokhin hasn't once been happy, even with our best games," Voronin said. "He always shows us our mistakes so that we don't repeat them."

A neutral atmosphere greeted the French in their first match at the Donbass Arena, but that won't be the case now after Ukraine has lifted the entire nation.

"The people will be behind the team more than ever now," Blanc said. "It's going to be a hard game, there's no doubt about it, but we will prepare ourselves in the same way we have planned."
